Natural Selection: a site-specific art installation


Natural Selection is a mixed media art exhibition at the Sesnon Gallery by NYC based artist and UCSC alumna Katerina Lanfranco. The main component of the site-specific show is a large-scale hand-cut 2D forest consisting of Japanese and American trees that combines representational, symbolic and abstract elements.

Natural Selection

The Sesnon Gallery is hosting artist-in-residence and UCSC alumna, Katerina Lanfranco. In collaboration with UCSC students, Lanfranco creates a large-scale, site-specific hand-cut installation with Tyvek paper and mixed media sculpture.

The Sesnon Gallery encourages interdisciplinary discourse through the lens of the arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday–Saturday noon to 5:00pm. The gallery is located at Porter College, University of California, Santa Cruz and is wheelchair accessible. Admission is free and parking is free on Saturdays. Thursday February 2, 3:00-5:00pm paper cutting demo and workshop with the artist
Friday February 3, 2:00-4:00pm Ikebana and Bonsai presentation and workshop

A group show entitled "Clear Cuts" will also be on view by artists who work with cut paper. Included in the show are works by Kara Walker, Beatrice Coron, and Jill Sylivia.
